Roundnet (also known as Spikeball) is a team sport played between two teams of two players each. The players stand facing each other, with a circular net and legged game board in between them. A point begins when the server hits the ball from a designated position off the net bounce to the opposing player. Once served, there are no sides or boundaries on the court. The objective of the game is to hit the ball off the net bounce in such a way that the opposing team cannot successfully return it, causing the ball to drop or be faulted. Teams are allowed up to three touches to return the ball to the net. Each time the ball hits the net, possession switches to the opposing team. The point exchange continues until one team fails to return the ball according to the rules. Players may move freely during a point but must not physically impede their opponent's play.
How is roundnet played? Brief description of the game:
🔹Played 2 vs 2.
🔹A game set is placed between the teams, serving as the central point of the court.
🔹The point begins with a serve to the opposing team, with the serving distance being 2.13 meters from the edge of the game board. The player has two attempts to serve (similar to tennis).
🔹After the serve, the opposing team has up to three touches to return the ball to the opponents off the net bounce. The game continues until one team fails to return the ball off the net bounce or fails to gain possession, resulting in a fault.
🔹Faults are counted when:
- the ball hits the ground
- the ball hits the frame
- the ball rolls over the net instead of bouncing off
- the same player hits the ball more than once
- a player catches or throws the ball instead of hitting it
- the ball hits the net more than once
- the ball hits a player on the attacking team
- a player touches the court during the game causing it to move
- a player obstructs the movement of another player.
- 🔹A win requires a two-point lead, and the game is played to a predetermined number of points, typically 11, 15, or 21.
